India’s Most Popular Online Games | Info4u
For many gamers, PCs and consoles are the best gaming machines within a mile. But for a growing number of Indian gamers, mobile devices are the future of the industry. So, who is right ? Are mobile devices better gaming devices?
Statistically speaking, mobile gaming is now more popular than console and PC gaming combined. And according to Tim Sweeney, CEO of Epic Games, mobile games are almost as competitive as PC games.
Sweeney is not wrong. Most of the popular online games in India are titles that most people play on their consoles. Here are a few.
Unknown Player Battlegrounds (PUBG)
PUBG was one of 118 apps banned in India for security reasons last September. Therefore, you can no longer download the APP from Google Play or Apple Stores. Despite, PUBG is still the most popular online game in India.
How is it possible? Although the game is now banned, it is still available to the tens of millions of people who downloaded it before September 2. In addition, PUBG still supports the servers necessary for the game to run smoothly in India.
For the uninitiated, PUBG is a Battle Royale multiplayer video game launched in 2017. It is a free to play game in which you can play solo, with a friend, or with up to four people. The objective is to annihilate as many opponents as possible until you are the last player standing.
It starts with a group of 100 people parachuting from one location and onto an island. Once there, they disperse to find weapons hidden in abandoned houses and ghost towns. Then they start to fight and the playing area narrows until they have to face each other.
Call of Duty (COD)
Call of Duty mobile has been downloaded over 250 million times. And 25 million of those downloads are from India. Only Americans downloaded the game more times, which explains its popularity in India.
Call of Duty mobile is almost similar to the PC version. You choose a team and face an opposing side until they are all dead. Or until they finish your team. It comes with two in-game currencies, a battle pass, and multiple game modes.
One of the currencies, credits, are earned by winning tournaments. On the other hand, you have to buy COD points. You can use these currencies to upgrade ammo, gear, and access to the Battle Pass. However, you can also play most tournaments for free, including Battle Royale.
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CSGO)
CSGO is one of the best selling games on Steam. It is therefore not surprising that it is also very popular in India. You see, there’s a growing market for tradable video game items like weapons, loot, coins, and skins – things you can’t legally buy or sell on Steam.
On the best websites, selling skins or converting your Steam dollars into cash is easy. All you need to do is create an account using your Skill ID. Then you can sell in-game items you don’t want for real money or buy what you need.
There is a huge CSGO Market on the Internet, which makes it easy to exchange skins at competitive prices. Rare skins can earn you hundreds or thousands of dollars. But they are harder to sell than the cheaper ones.
Dota 2 is one of the main competitors of CS: GO in India. It is a team multiplayer game (5V5) in which a team fights to defend their base. Each player controls a character with unique combat skills, which means knowing the traits of your “hero” is essential.
That said, Dota 2 is slightly less difficult than CS: GO. With Counter-Strike, you don’t just shoot and hope to win. You have to be skillful and excellent to aim. In other words, it is a real strategy game where the most strategic players win.
On the flip side, Dota 2 is all about situational awareness. Getting killed is easy, and mastering your hero’s unique traits is a bit difficult. You don’t have to be a sniper to take out your opponents. But you have to be careful with your steps, the map and your movements.
Soccer is one of the most popular sports in India. Naturally, this means that football-themed video games are common. FIFA20 is the most popular of all, mainly because it features the most popular leagues and tournaments in the world.
In all fairness, FIFA20 is an exciting game. The graphics are ultra-realistic. The gameplay is phenomenal and the career mode is reasonably rewarding. People who purchased the game immediately after its release might not agree with the gameplay commentary.
But after a few updates, FIFA20 is just as fun to play as FIFA 19 or FIFA 16. Multiplayer play makes it even more exciting. While it has to be admitted, it can get expensive if you want to fill your squad with world-class players.
8 ball pool
It might come as a surprise. Corn 8 ball pool has over 500 million downloads from Google and Apple stores. That means it has more fans than some of the more popular PC video games. And this despite the fact that it is a simple mobile game.
For the uninitiated, 8 Ball Pool is exactly that. It is a game in which you compete to ram eight balls into a pool board using a pool cue. If you can do it before your competitor, you win. For clarity, there is one ball played last: the black ball.
If you push it into the board before scoring normal balls, you lose. With winning comes the ability to upgrade your rank, wands, and in-game currencies.
Clash of the clans
This is another popular mobile game with millions of fans in India. This involves creating a clan of no more than 50 people and leading them to war with other clans. The reward is gold or elixir, both of which are used to upgrade defenses and buildings. The elixir can also be used to train troops and improve spells.
While it sounds simple, Clash of Clans calls for careful strategy. Resources are scarce and attackers can be brutal. So you need to use the resources you have wisely to build a strong defense and a powerful army.
